How to change a dress into a skirt
By adminSometimes you may find that you have a dress in your wardrobe that you always liked the colour or the print of but somehow it didn’t quite fit on you as well as you would have liked. The dress remains there because you don’t seem to have the heart to chuck it out but you never wear it.

Well because you like the material you can always opt to change it into a skirt. A skirt is a much simpler garment than a dress and once transformed into a skirt you will possibly end up wearing it again.
Put the dress up against you and place it so that the hem reaches to more or less where you want it to and then place a pin to mark the area of your waist. Allow a good 2 inches above this mark for making the waistline of the skirt and then cut the top away all the way round and be very sure that the zip is open and not closed, this is very important.
Fold the remaining material at the waistline over and iron and press it so that it stays marked and in place. Then on the inside of the waistline insert a wide piece of stiff bias binding (large enough to cover the turned over material) to go all the way round and sew it into place on the outside, with your sewing machine or if you don’t have one, a very small stitch using the same colour cotton as the colour of the garment.
Finally in the area where the zip meets the top of the waistline sew each side of the zip with lots and lots of stitches so that when you close the zip the zipper tag can’t slide off at the ends. And there you have it, a skirt with your favourite print and a new item in your wardrobe.
